Joel Yasskin grew up in Portland, Oregon and loves the Great Northwest. His interest in heritage, history, and culture is lifelong. He developed this course out of an appreciation for the subject matter and to offer students an enriching and unique course. He wishes this class was available when he was a student.
Joel holds a BA in history with an emphasis in world history. He will finish his TESL Certification this June, 2009. He is in the process of pursuing an MA in professional & technical writing, an MFA in writing, and an MA Ed in Leadership, Ecology, Culture, and Learning. He works as a writing intensive teaching assistant and teaches American Popular Culture in the IELP. He also tutors ESL and writing and works as landscape gardener and designer.
