Creative Freedom & Classroom Bonding: Winter 2009
In Winter '09, I taught a course on "reading and writing diaries, journals, and blogs" through the Chiron Studies department. Prior to teaching this class, I'd taught standard undergraduate writing courses as a Graduate Assistant in the English Department. Through Chiron Studies, I was able to come up with an original concept for a course, choose and design all my own reading and writing assignments, and determine the entire structure and content of the class. This experience was invaluable. The creative freedom and control I was given allowed me to share, unfiltered, my passion for and knowledge of the subject with my fellow students. The class formed a close bond as we shared our writing and thoughts on the reading with each other. Teaching a course through Chiron Studies was an incredible academic, professional, and personal experience.
